Big Cypress ORV meetings
Sorry for the somewhat vague subject line.
How would you like 140 miles of legal off road vehicle access? The Big Cypress Nation preserve is holding public meetings to talk about opening up additional lands in the park. There are multiple plans being reviewed. Keeping everything status quo (plan A), developing 140 miles of new access trails for orv, hiking etc(Plan B), the preferred plan is similar to B just less of it and plan F(Only hiking and hugging)
Every offroader should stay informed and have an opinion. These places get closed for a number of reasons. Personally I think its because we as a group do not have a very large voice. We don't go to meetings and write letters as much as bird watchers and trout fisherman. The other reason is lack of respect for the areas we can go to. ORV's are not inherantly destructive. Its the operator. But you could not convince a more nature orientated person of this.

This is what we are up against-

Heads Up everyone. There is a meeting in Naples on 08/11/09 at Edison State College from 4:30pm to 7:30 pm.

There is a meeting in Everglades City on 08/12/09 from 4:30-7:30pm.

It is important for us to voice our opinions.

meeting
I was the only jeeper there and from the paper tonight , i missed some stuff
it was a comment forum
a couple people really used some harsh words at park service agents.

two huggers were there and they were so smooth and polished i can see why they get the inside track on forest policy (after the jerks i saw )
they wanted it all closed no entry at all.

we need to get involved and pay attention to things like this
